TEDDY LEE MARCUM

LIFE-LONG NOLAN RESIDENT

Obituary for Teddy Lee Marcum

In 1 Corinthians 10:31, the Bible states “...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

No truer words could ever be spoken of Teddy Lee Marcum.

From September 05, 1940 to May 20, 2023, Ted Marcum lived for the glory of God. He was born on the hillside in Nolan, WV, to Everett and Nellie Chafin Marcum, and he lived his last several years on the other side of the railroad tracks, looking up at the home he shared with his brothers, James and Eddie, both of whom preceded him in death, and looking forward to going home to see his family and his Jesus, never to be parted again.

Always an avid gardener, Ted planted seeds in the ground, as well as seeds of love and faith in the hearts of those he left behind. Ted will forever be missed by his loving wife, Mary Kay Marcum, and his three children, Anna Anderson, Nellie Marcum, and Robert Marcum. Over the past 18 years, he also loved and cared for two stepsons: Chris (Tammy) Taylor and Eric (Angie) Taylor. He was also the adoring grandfather to 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Ted was both a fisher of catfish and a fisher of men. He was a faithful member of Nolan Street Church, and as long as he was able and the doors were open, you could almost always find him at church. Over the past several years, about the only reason Ted ever had for missing church were the annual camping trips to East Lynn Lake with his constantly growing family.

As a retired mechanic from the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, Ted had a knack of fixing just about anything. One thing that he can never fix is the hole that will be left in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but he can rest easy knowing that he did everything to the glory of God.

Family will receive visitors at Chafin Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 23, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, with service at 7:00. Graveside service will be held at Mountain View Memory Gardens on Wednesday, May 24, at 1:00 pm. Men of the family and church family will serve as pallbearers
